Sevenoaks artist Ann Bridges studied Illustration at Yale College (Coleg Cambria) and the North Wales College of Art and Design (Glyndwr University). She graduated with First Class Honours in Design. A two year placement at Chester Zoological Gardens as Artist in Residence provided her with her first studio and the opportunity to develop and broaden her practice.
Observational drawing is the starting point for Ann’s stencil-based paintings and original prints. The shapes are drawn in sketchbooks, and then on card to make the printing plates. These, along with stencils, are printed by hand using hand held rollers directly onto the picture surface (cast-coated board/card). A printing press is rarely used. The prints are produced in one go, in small runs, as the card plates wear down quickly and can only be used for one edition.
