Melvyn Evans completed his degree in illustration at Exeter College of Art and Design before undertaking further studies at Goldsmith’s College London. He then took drawing classes at the Royal Academy of Art where he was tutored by Brian Kneale RA. He has been a professional artist since 1992.
Melvyn’s interests are drawn towards the British landscape, exploring it’s figurative representation and then looking deeper into aspects that interpret the mystical and spiritual elements of its nature. He looks to convey a sense of history and folklore in a narrative, imbuing the image with a sense of place.
Melvyn develops these ideas using lino relief printing, this form of printing places restrictions upon the artist because of the inherent restrictions of the medium. It necessitates a focused consideration as to what is essential in conveying an idea, how the composition, tone and colour work in harmony. All linocut prints are signed and numbered limited editions and are printed by hand onto Somerset satin paper.
